Augusta, Maine — Last night, Republican gubernatorial candidates took the gloves off in a contentious debate filled with personal attacks, extreme policies, and a race to prove who is most aligned with the MAGA agenda. While Bobby Charles skipped the debate stage yet again, he still became one of the night’s biggest targets.
DEBATE STAND OUT MOMENTS:
-
Garrett Mason doubled down on his anti-choice agenda, reaffirming his support for an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. Watch it here.
-
Republicans continued attacking MaineCare. Jonathan Bush in particular pushed his plan to cut health care coverage. He once again made it clear that he wants to kick working Mainers off their health care. Watch it here.
-
Bobby Charles’ absence made him a convenient punching bag, but Garrett Mason and Jonathan Bush also repeatedly went after one another. From family attacks towards Bush to disagreements around tax policy and health care (note: they both want to cut health care – just disagree on how), Mason and Bush made it a point to draw a clear contrast between themselves. Watch part of it here.
-
Garrett Mason touted Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, which included devastating health care provisions that have already driven up premiums and increased costs for Maine families. At a time when Mainers are struggling to afford care, Mason is embracing the same reckless agenda making health care more expensive. Bush and Charles have previously defended the legislation as well.
