Hannah Pingree Clear Winner of First Gubernatorial Debate

Augusta, Maine — Tonight, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Hannah Pingree dominated the debate stage against Republican Bobby Charles and former Maine GOP Chairman Rick Bennett. While Charles failed to answer policy questions, including how he plans to cut $4 billion from the state budget, and Bennett didn’t have any meaningful moments, Hannah Pingree was the clear and indisputable winner.

Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:

“We couldn’t agree more with Hannah: tonight’s debate showed exactly why we need a woman in the Blaine House.

“Hannah was the clear and indisputable winner and made it clear that she is the only candidate in this race who has what it takes to be our next governor. Onstage, Hannah powerfully laid out her vision to lower costs for Mainers and stand up for us against the attacks from the Trump administration.

“Bobby Charles’ campaign was already on life support. After tonight’s debate, it’s barely alive. From doubling down on his economy-crashing budget plan to struggling to explain his record of supporting tariffs and the Iran war, it’s clear that Bobby is just another MAGA DC lobbyist who doesn’t have what it takes to lead our state.”
