ICYMI: Maine Voters Aren’t Buying Bobby Charles’ $4 Billion Fantasy

Augusta, Maine — Bobby Charles is asking Maine voters to believe something that isn’t true: that you can cut $4 billion from the state budget without gutting the services they depend on. You can’t. He knows it. And this 25-year DC lobbyist is facing the tough reality from the Maine electorate.

Charles continues to face criticism for his reckless proposal to slash $4 billion from the state budget. This plan is so divorced from reality that even fellow Republicans have said it would crash Maine’s budget.

Over the weekend, John Nicholas from Winthrop called Charles’ bluff in a letter to the Press Herald, arguing that Maine voters deserve more than a pile of vague promises about a “fantasy budget.”

Press Herald: Charles needs to be more specific on his fantasy budgeting | Letter
John Nicholas – August 30

  • Bobby Charles is engaged in fantasy budgeting by claiming he can, as governor, end the need for $2,799,948,320 in annual income from the individual income tax by eliminating government bloat.

  • During my career in Maine state government, I have been involved in the merger of two of the state’s largest departments and the reorganization of state programs…

  • Bobby Charles needs to be forthcoming with Maine voters and identify the departments and programs that should be abolished or downsized.
