Augusta, Maine — Jonathan Bush is the latest Republican gubernatorial candidate to publicly campaign for Donald Trump’s endorsement.
In an interview this weekend with FOX News, when asked about the deeply unpopular president, Bush said a Trump endorsement would be “phenomenal,” adding that “obviously everybody wants endorsements.”
Bush’s comments are just the latest example of a Republican primary field that has spent the entire campaign competing to prove who is most loyal to Trump and his agenda:
-
Ben Midgley’s senior campaign advisor said Midgley is running to be “Trump 2.0” in Maine.
-
Bobby Charles never skips an opportunity to praise Trump and support Trump’s policies, including Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill that’s led to increasing health care costs and Trump’s new war that’s driving up gas prices. Charles even went outside the White House to appeal to Trump and his team.
-
Garrett Mason, also a supporter of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, is trying to back channel his way into Trump’s endorsement via connections to his anti-abortion MAGA billionaire donor. He has also hired a former JD Vance advisor to run his campaign.
Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:
“Republican candidates are racing to the right to out-MAGA one another and show their base that they support Donald Trump and his policies. But their strategy is shortsighted. On June 10th, whoever makes it out of their primary will be forever tied to the Trump economy of higher gas prices, unaffordable health care, and expensive groceries.”
BUSH: “Well obviously everybody wants endorsements, a giant endorsement like Donald Trump’s would be phenomenal. He’s held off, this is a purple state, you know, there’s probably gives and takes. But Ned, we’d love one, all of us running. And he’s kept it in pocket so far.”
