In Bangor, Mainers Call Out Shady Susan for Selling Out Maine While Enriching Lobbyists, Billionaires, and Herself

Bangor, ME – Today, at Senator Collins’ office in Bangor, Mainers held the third stop on the “Retire Susan” recess tour, where they emphasized how Collins has sold out Maine families while cozying up to lobbyists and big corporations and increasing her net worth by millions of dollars.

“Susan Collins has become one of the most reliable supporters of DC lobbyists,” said Maine Democratic Party Vice Chair Imke Schessler. “At the end of the day, Collins’ campaign is backed by billionaires, private equity executives, insurance companies, and other powerful interests because they know she’ll deliver for them when it counts.”

“It’s kind of hard for the senator to relate to Mainers right now,” said Representative Amy Roeder (D-Bangor). “You’d find it difficult to care about the price of gas when your husband’s stock portfolio grew almost 80% in 2024, while you yourself are the only member of Maine’s federal delegation to oppose a ban on congressional stock trading. You wouldn’t care about putting food on the table when your service in the Senate has consistently enriched you over the past 30 years.”

“Here at home, Mainers are facing skyrocketing gas prices as this war carries on — and now our senator, who could act, is cashing in on those costs” said Representative Ambureen Rana (D-Bangor). “Collins and her husband hold up to $115,000 in natural gas stocks, and since this war began, […] her portfolio has soared as Mainers struggle to make ends meet.”

Read more on how Shady Susan has enriched herself and her donors by selling out Maine:

  • While Mainers struggle with rising costs, Collins’ wealth has grown by millions since coming to D.C.– in 2024 alone, her stock portfolio grew by nearly 80%. Collins also violated the STOCK Act by failing to report her husband’s stock trades at least 25 times, on transactions with a value of up to $445,000. She remains the only member of the Maine delegation to oppose ending congressional stock trading.

  • Collins voted five times against resolutions that could have ended the Iran War. Meanwhile, Collins’ stock portfolio has surged – she and her husband hold up to $115,000 in natural gas stocks, which have potentially raked in thousands more for the couple since the war began.
