Portland, ME – Today, at Senator Collins’ office in Portland, Mainers held the second stop on the “Retire Susan” recess tour, where they highlighted Senator Collins’ failure to protect Mainers’ reproductive rights. Collins voted to confirm Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, who overturned Roe v. Wade, and has also voted to confirm dozens of Trump’s anti-abortion judges to the federal bench.

“While Susan Collins would like Mainers to believe that she is a champion of reproductive rights, her record tells a very different story,” said Devon Murphy-Anderson. “Susan Collins has had repeated opportunities to protect reproductive freedom, and she has repeatedly made choices that put those freedoms at risk.”

“I had the chance to head to Washington to meet with Senator Collins about Brett Kavanaugh. My last words to Susan Collins were, ‘We can’t go back,’” said Sara Gilfenbaum, a Maine reproductive rights activist. “She assured me that she believed Brett Kavanaugh when he said Roe v. Wade was the law of the land. Clearly, this was not the case.”

“Susan Collins voted to confirm both Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, which led directly to the Dobbs decision,” said Representative Eleanor Sato (D-Gorham). “As the world watched women bleed to death from miscarriages after having been refused care in their own states, Susan Collins said that she did not regret those votes. She had the opportunity to stand up for Maine women, but she voted against critical legislation that would have restored Roe.”

“Susan Collins is responsible for the abortion bans nationwide,” said Senate Majority Leader Teresa Pierce (D-Cumberland). “She also refused to stand up for Maine women when she voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act […] She is not listening to Maine women.”

Susan Collins is responsible for abortion bans nationwide, after she cast the decisive vote for the judges that overturned Roe v. Wade and voted against a bill to restore it.

• Collins voted for the confirmations of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh as Supreme Court justices – who were later deciding votes to overturn Roe v Wade in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling.

• Collins refused to stand up for Maine women when she voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would have restored Roe v. Wade as the law of the land.

Collins has a long history of supporting anti-choice judges who are actively stripping rights away from women.

• Collins voted to confirm a Trump-appointed judge who has argued that Mifepristone should be restricted and its FDA approval should be invalidated – even though the drug has been safely used under FDA approval for 23 years.

• Collins voted to confirm multiple Trump-appointed judges who later upheld statewide abortion bans in Texas and Idaho.

Collins has continued to “rubber stamp” dozens of Trump-appointed anti-choice judges who have advocated for and defended near-total abortion bans in states.

Collins’ “key,” “pivotal vote” to advance Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill led to Medicaid cuts that have forced Maine abortion care clinics to close some of their services.
