Augusta, ME – Today on WMLB radio, Maine GOP Chair Jim Deyermond confirmed that Donald Trump needs Susan Collins to get re-elected to keep rubber-stamping his right-wing agenda, which she has voted for 96% of the time.
Deyermond: Susan Collins is a righteous woman, and she does, she votes more than 50% – she’s more like 80-20 with the president. And every time I go to an RNC meeting, because I represent the state as the chair, I’m a voting member of the RNC. There’s always a tap on my shoulder from someone from the White House saying that President Trump really needs her to get re-elected, so I understand the feelings of some of the voters up here.
Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Misha Linnehan released the following statement:
“The Maine GOP is saying the quiet part out loud: Donald Trump wants Susan Collins to get re-elected because he knows that he can count on her vote when he needs it, from slashing health care and cutting taxes for billionaires to funding ICE with no guardrails and confirming dozens of anti-choice judges. That’s why he endorsed her campaign and his billionaire supporters are spending millions of dollars to flood Maine’s airwaves with ads on her behalf. Maine deserves a Senator who will stand up to Donald Trump, not one that he can rely on to pass his radical agenda.”
Last month, Trump endorsed Collins’ re-election campaign.
