MDP Celebrates Victory Protecting Ranked Choice Voting

Augusta, ME – The Maine Democratic Party is celebrating a major victory for Maine voters after the DNC voted to remove a proposed rule that would have prohibited Maine’s use of ranked choice voting in future presidential primaries. Maine Democratic Party Chair Charlie Dingman released the following statement:

“This is a major victory for Maine voters. The Maine Democratic Party fought hard to protect ranked choice voting and ensure the system Maine voters chose is respected. We’re proud to have worked alongside state parties from across the country to make the case and deliver the right outcome.

“We are grateful that leadership of the DNC and its rules committee listened to our concerns and to the voices of DNC members and ultimately worked with us to remove problematic language from the proposed rule. Maine has led the way on ranked choice voting for years, and we’re proud that our national party’s rules will continue to respect the voices of Maine voters.”
