Augusta, Maine – Following an overwhelming 204-21 vote by nurses at Central Maine Medical Center to form a union and join the Maine State Nurses Association, Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:

“Congratulations to the nurses at Central Maine Medical Center on their overwhelming vote to form a union and join the Maine State Nurses Association. CMMC nurses stood together and made their voices heard and we are proud to stand with them.

“At a time when Maine’s health care system is already under enormous strain, we should be supporting the nurses who keep our hospitals running and care for Mainers every day. Protecting quality health care in Maine starts with listening to and respecting the people who provide it.

“CMMC nurses fought for a stronger voice in their workplace and in the care they provide their patients. This overwhelming vote sends a clear message that nurses deserve respect, dignity, and a meaningful voice on the job. We congratulate them on this hard-fought victory.”
