To Prime Healthcare Leadership:
As leaders of the Maine Democratic Party and Democratic county committees across our state, we stand with the nurses at Central Maine Medical Center as they organize to join the Maine State Nurses Association/National Nurses United.
CMMC nurses are organizing for a stronger voice in their workplace and in the care they provide their patients. Now, as nurses prepare to vote on forming a union, 15 nurses have been fired and five others suspended.
Nurses have a right to organize and advocate for themselves and their patients without fear of intimidation or retaliation. The decision of whether to form a union belongs to CMMC nurses and Prime Healthcare must respect their right to make that decision freely.
We fully support CMMC nurses in their effort to organize and join the Maine State Nurses Association/National Nurses United. We call on Prime Healthcare to ensure a free and fair union election and address the serious concerns surrounding these firings and suspensions.
At a time when Maine’s health care system is already under enormous strain, we should be supporting the nurses who keep our hospitals running – not making their jobs harder. Protecting quality health care in Maine starts with listening to and respecting the people who provide it every day.
CMMC nurses deserve respect, dignity, and a voice in the decisions that affect their patients and their workplace.
