MDP Statement on ICE Detaining Yet Another Maine Father

Augusta, ME – Following a report from the Portland Press Herald that ICE has detained another Mainer with no apparent criminal record at the airport on the way to visit his deaf son, Misha Linnehan, spokesperson for the Maine Democratic Party, released the following statement:

“Ten months after Susan Collins said that ICE was ‘ceasing enhanced operations’ in Maine, Trump’s rogue agency has shot and killed a Mainer and is still here abducting members of our community with no apparent criminal record. At tonight’s debate, Collins must answer why she voted to give ICE $70 billion with no guardrails and why she still doesn’t regret it.”

One month before ICE killed a man in Biddeford without a body camera recording, Collins voted to give ICE $70 billion with no guardrails and voted against an amendment that would have required agents to wear active body cameras. Following the shooting, Collins faced immense pressure and protest from Mainers for her failure to hold ICE accountable. Earlier today, reports surfaced that Collins’ re-election effort has been backed by more than $130,000 in donations from ICE contractors.
