Augusta, ME – Following Susan Collins denying her investments in the companies profiting from the Iran War, Devon Murphy-Anderson, Executive Director of the Maine Democratic Party, released the following statement:
“Susan Collins voted to extend the Iran War five times, and now Mainers are paying record prices to heat their homes while gas, oil, and defense companies that Collins owns stock in have profited. Collins doesn’t need an apology – but we do. She needs to apologize to Mainers for voting to continue this pointless, expensive war that is making her wealthier while us Mainers pay more.”
Last night, Politifact fact checked Collins’ husband Thomas Daffron’s investments in the Iran War:
Daffron owns stock in two U.S. military defense contractors, Boeing and RTX. According to the couple’s 2025 financial disclosure, filed in May 2026, Daffron held between $15,001 and $50,000 in stock in each company.
The financial disclosure also shows that he also owns between $15,001 and $50,000 in Conoco-Phillips stock.

Collins voted five times against resolutions that could have ended the Iran War.
Susan Collins is the head of the Appropriations Committee, but she has refused to hold the administration accountable, holding no oversight hearings on the Iran war.
Meanwhile, Collins’ stock portfolio has surged – she and her husband hold up to $150,000 in oil interests, which have potentially raked in thousands more for the couple since the war began.
Collins’s husband also holds up to $100,000 in stock in Boeing and RTX — defense contractors for whom the war has meant “billions more in product sales.”
Meanwhile, the average price of gas in Maine has climbed more than 50% since the strikes began, and heating oil prices have reached a record high.
