PORTLAND — Last night, Susan Collins voted to confirm Trump’s Director of National Intelligence nominee, who refused to admit that Joe Biden won the 2020 election and defended Trump’s attacks on the press.
Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Misha Linnehan made the following statement:
“Once again, Susan Collins is rubber-stamping a Trump nominee for a major national security position despite his refusal to acknowledge basic realities like the fact that the 2020 election was not stolen. Trump is installing radical, right-wing lackeys at every level of our government, and Susan Collins has been right there with him as she voted with Trump 96% of the time.”

Washington Post: Trump intel pick Jay Clayton questioned about election security, journalist subpoenas
Jay Clayton, the Trump administration’s nominee for director of national intelligence, faced questions Wednesday on election security and his commitment to keep the agency free of political interference, during a confirmation hearing that was rescheduled weeks after being abruptly scuttled by the president.
[…] when pressed repeatedly by multiple Democrats, Clayton refused to say that Biden “won” the election. […]
Clayton’s recent decision to subpoena several journalists from the New York Times for their reporting on Trump’s Qatari-gifted Air Force One plane could also complicate their support.
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon), pressed Clayton on the subpoenas during the hearing, calling them a “flagrant attack on journalists and the First Amendment.”
