NEW: End Citizens United Slams Bobby Charles Over Campaign Finance Violations

Washington, DC — Following this morning’s Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices hearing on Bobby Charles’ campaign finance violations, End Citizens United is speaking out. The leading national anti-corruption and campaign finance reform organization is calling out Charles’ blatant disregard for Maine campaign finance laws.

At the hearing, the Commission found the Charles campaign in violation of campaign finance laws for accepting $45,315.98 in illegal contributions during a single filing period. They fined him $22,657.99, 50% of his illegal contributions.

“Bobby Charles is willing to do just about anything to get elected, even if it means breaking the law,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Contribution limits exist to prevent wealthy donors from gaining undue influence over candidates, and returning the money after getting caught doesn’t erase what happened. Mainers deserve a governor who respects the law, not a politician who sees it as an inconvenience on the road to power. The Commission’s fine makes clear that campaign finance laws apply to everyone, and Bobby Charles is no exception.”
