Augusta, Maine — It’s now been one full week since the Maine Monitor reported that Republican gubernatorial candidate and DC lobbyist Bobby Charles is refusing to release his personal financial disclosures to Maine voters. Seven days later, the Charles campaign is still refusing to release the records.
According to the Monitor:
“Charles declined to provide his own personal financial disclosure, saying he hadn’t heard people raise this issue yet in the campaign and does not “see the value” of adding personal finances to the conversation at this point in the governor’s race.”
A week later, the question hasn’t gone away. If Bobby Charles wants Mainers to trust him with the governor’s office, the least he can do is be transparent about his own financial interests.
Statement from Maine Democratic Party Spokesperson Lauryn Fanguen:
“It’s been one full week since Bobby Charles was asked to release his personal financial disclosures, and Maine voters are still waiting. Transparency shouldn’t be this difficult. Every day Charles refuses to release these records raises more questions about what he’s hiding.”
