Augusta, ME – This weekend, Donald Trump confirmed that he doesn’t “give a damn” that “people are suffering at the pump” because he’s “making a freaking fortune” off of high gas prices – just like his rubber-stamp ally, Susan Collins. After Collins voted five times for the Iran War, Collins’ stock portfolio has surged, even as gas prices and heating oil costs in Maine have skyrocketed.
In response to Trump’s comments, Misha Linnehan, spokesperson for the Maine Democratic Party, released the following statement:
“Donald Trump just admitted he’s keeping America at war because he’s making money off the sky-high gas prices, and Susan Collins has been right at his side. We need a Senator who will stand up to Trump and push to end this war – not one who voted five times to extend the conflict while her stock portfolio grew larger.”
Read more about how Susan Collins voted for the Iran War and is profiting off of it:
Collins voted five times against resolutions that could have ended the Iran War.
Susan Collins is the head of the Appropriations Committee, but she has refused to hold the administration accountable, holding no oversight hearings on the Iran war.
Meanwhile, Collins’ stock portfolio has surged – she and her husband hold up to $150,000 in oil interests, which has potentially increased the couple’s wealth by thousands since the war began.
Collins’s husband also holds up to $100,000 in stock in Boeing and RTX — defense contractors for whom the war has meant “billions more in product sales.”
Meanwhile, the average price of gas in Maine has climbed more than 50% since the strikes began, and heating oil prices have reached a record high.
