PORTLAND — Maryland Governor Wes Moore recorded a kind, heartfelt message to Republican gubernatorial candidate and once and future Marylander Bobby Charles. Charles, a longtime D.C. lobbyist, spent more than two decades living in Gaithersburg, Maryland before moving back to Maine four years ago to run for governor.
Now with his gubernatorial ambitions struggling to gain traction in public polls and fundraising, Moore is offering a friendly reminder that Maryland will always welcome him back.
In a thoughtful message, Moore assures Charles that Maryland still considers him one of its own and that he’ll have a place to land when the whole Maine governor thing doesn’t work out. Moore made clear that he looks forward to working with his friend Hannah Pingree, who will be busy helping Maine families thrive as their next governor.
It’s a generous offer from the governor of a state Charles called home for more than 20 years, reminding Charles that he can come back to the place where he spent so much of his adult life.

Hey Bobby, Governor Wes Moore here
Now I know you left Maryland about four years ago
And since I know you spent more than two decades living here and you’re basically a Marylander, I want to let you know that we still consider you one of us
And so since you are a Marylander and Marylanders take care of our own, I want to let you know that when the whole Maine governor thing does not work out, that you can always come back home
Maryland will welcome you back with open arms and you and thrive here because you actually are a Marylander
So when you’re out figuring out your next chapter, I just want to say that I am so excited that my friend Hannah Pingree will be busy working as my colleague and actually helping Maine families thrive as their next governor
So Bobby, see you soon
