2025 Had Big Results For MDP

The Maine Democratic Party launched its first off-year organizing programs to counter threats to voting rights by Republicans and prepare for one of the largest election cycles in the state’s history. We expanded our team from four to eighteen staff members and raised $2.2 million (which is over $1 million more than in 2023 & $700,000 more than in 2021) to support two on-the-ground organizing efforts: one focused on offense and one on defense.

On Offense

Our Down Ballot Victory Program invested directly in local and municipal races. With only a director and two field organizers, we competed in 70 races and won 51–73% win rate. Additionally, we trained 71 potential candidates through our Run Local Training, a core component of the program that has achieved an 88% win rate among its participating candidates.

On Defense

We ran a statewide field program to defeat Question 1, led by a field director and six organizers split evenly between CD1 and CD2. Together with volunteers, the team knocked on 41,000 doors and made 320,000 calls, leading to tens of thousands of direct, neighbor-to-neighbor conversations with voters across Maine.
