Amateur Hour: Bobby Charles Can’t Answer Basic Questions about Public Education

Augusta, Maine — Bobby Charles, the Republican candidate for governor, is running a campaign more focused on being a terminally online MAGA troll than responding to the people of Maine. Charles, who somehow finds time to post on social media roughly nine times a day, now claims that he and his campaign didn’t have time to answer a simple question from WGME about public school infrastructure. The catch? They had three full business days — 72 hours — to respond.

According to WGME:

Republican candidate Bobby Charles did not answer the I-Team’s questions directly before deadline. A campaign spokesperson says the campaign did not have time to respond. ‘The time constraints on your article and the activities of the campaign at the moment don’t work well,’ the spokesperson wrote. For transparency, the I-Team contacted all three campaigns at the same time and gave each three business days to respond.”

Apparently, three days wasn’t enough time for Bobby Charles to explain how he’d address Maine’s estimated $11 billion in school construction needs over the next two decades. It’s the latest example of Charles failing to prioritize Mainers and address real issues. This is the same candidate who wants to slash $4 billion from the state budget — a plan even Republicans have warned would tank Maine’s economy.

Statement from Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Lauryn Fanguen:

“Bobby Charles somehow has time to flood Facebook every day, but not enough time to answer a straightforward question about Maine’s public schools. If he can’t be bothered to explain how he’d tackle challenges facing Mainers, why should voters trust him to run the entire state?”
