For Maine to Look to the Future, We’re Returning to Our Roots

Through the coastlines, forests, and mountains that make our state beautiful, working Mainers are feeling the pressure. The Maine way of life is under threat as prices rise, rural hospitals close, shifts in climate throw off the ecosystems we depend on, and Republicans are implementing policies that squeeze us and damage the diversity that makes our home unique. As Democrats, we are set on protecting the Maine way of life, future-proofing our home, and living up to the state motto: Dirigo, I lead.

We are making big changes to reflect this core sentiment. We’re focused on practical solutions to the challenges we face today. With attacks on our rights, an economy that doesn’t work for working people, and a fragile ecosystem we depend on, we need to lead in creating a government that solves the issues that matter most.

We’re taking on economic issues to prevent our long-time residents from being priced out of housing. From building and maintaining housing, shoring up our core industries, and making a fairer tax system, regular Mainers go first — not out-of-state people. We’re putting our work and our unique shared culture into everything, from our visuals to our approach.

Our vast forests, rocky beaches, and bountiful farms make our state iconic. But they aren’t just there for tourists. They are there to sustain us. Our nature is the lifeblood of our economy and history. We’ll tackle a changing climate and the problems that come with it, building green energy and infrastructure, defending against storms, and making sure our farming, fishing, and forestry practices are sustainable into the far future.

We need to do more than stick to the status quo and listen to the most important part of Maine — the people. We need to pull in the next generation of Mainers. And we need to make it known that we won’t be moved from creating a great future for all of us.
