ICYMI: Despite Collins’ Final Vote on Reconciliation, “Republicans Pass it Anyway,” After She Made “Key,” “Pivotal Vote” to Advance Bill in First Place

Augusta, Maine – In case you missed it, coverage continues to highlight that despite Susan Collins’ last-minute opposition to Republicans’ dangerous budget bill that will have devastating impacts on Maine, “the GOP-led Senate pass[ed] it anyway.” In the weeks leading up to the vote, Mainers called on Collins to leverage her power and seniority to put a stop to the bill, and abide by “the standard she set” when campaigning in 2020 on her power and ability to protect Maine.

Ultimately, as reporting highlights, Collins served as a “key” “pivotal vote” to advance the bill, both enabling the bill to move forward then failing to stop it.

See some of the headlines and takeaways:

Maine Public Radio:

Bangor Daily News:

Portland Press Herald: “Democrats pounced on her decision to vote in support of a procedural motion to advance the bill over the weekend, despite concerns that it could force rural hospitals to reduce services or close altogether.”

Maine Beacon: “Although Collins ultimately voted against the final bill, she was a key vote in allowing the legislation to advance over the weekend.”
