Augusta, Maine — Yesterday, former GOP Chairman and gubernatorial candidate Rick Bennett kicked off a campaign tour meant to reintroduce himself to Mainers. Of course, that introduction won’t include much about the conservative record he’s spent years building and is hoping that voters forget.
Maine Democratic Party executive director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:
“Mainers won’t be fooled by Rick Bennett’s recent rebrand. They know that behind the new talking points, Bennett is the same Republican operative who stood with Trump, worked hand in hand with Paul LePage, opposed expanding MaineCare, and supported attacks on reproductive health care. He can change his messaging, but he can’t rewrite his record.”
Things Rick Bennett Won’t Want to Talk About On His Tour:
-
As recently as 2022, even after the Dobbs decision, Rick Bennett supported defunding Planned Parenthood. In 2024, the year before he decided to run for statewide office, Bennett got a 38% score.
-
Bennett voted for Donald Trump, served as a delegate at the Republican National Convention, and attended Trump’s inauguration.
-
Like the Republican candidates running for governor, Bennett is against MaineCare expansion. He consistently opposed expansion, voted against it in the state legislature, opposed a ballot measure about expansion, and stood by LePage through repeated vetoes.
-
As Maine GOP Chairman, Bennett worked side by side with Paul LePage to push his agenda and help keep him in power.
Rick Bennett can hit the road, but Mainers shouldn’t let him leave his record behind. Read the facts, receipts, and documentation at RicksReceipts.com.
