Collins Sides with Trump, Votes Against War Powers Resolution

Augusta, Maine – Today, Susan Collins voted against a war powers resolution to stop Donald Trump from dragging the United States into war. The resolution would have halted U.S. military action against Iran that Trump recently initiated without authorization from Congress.

Rather than defend Congress’s constitutional authority and assert a critical check on executive power, Collins once again chose to protect Donald Trump – giving him broader authority to act without accountability.

Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Kristi Johnston:

“Susan Collins had the chance to stand up for checks and balances and rein in Donald Trump’s unchecked power – and she refused. Instead, she sided with Trump and enabled him yet again. After years of claiming to be independent, Collins continues to fall in line when it matters most, empowering Trump and his extreme agenda at the expense of our safety.”
