Augusta, Maine – Susan Collins is refusing to say whether she supports a Republican proposal to spend $1 billion in taxpayer money on Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project.
As Senate Republicans move forward with the proposal this week, Collins has ducked questions about whether she backs using public funds for the ballroom.
Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Kristi Johnston:
“Mainers are struggling to afford groceries, housing, and health care – and now Republicans want them to foot the bill for Donald Trump’s luxury ballroom project. It’s shameful that Susan Collins has refused to speak out against spending $1 billion in taxpayer dollars on this vanity project instead of lowering costs for working families.”
REMINDER:
Collins voted with Trump 96% of the time.
Collins serves as a “regular deciding vote” on “important Republican policies” and nominations.
Collins greenlit Medicaid cuts that are forcing 61,000 Mainers to lose their health care coverage and number of rural Maine hospitals to shut down.
