Augusta, Maine — Last year, Bobby Charles celebrated Trump’s budget law. One year later, Mainers are paying the price. The law is driving up health care costs, slashing funding for rural hospitals, and making it harder for working families to afford the care they need.
Statement from Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson:
“Bobby Charles will always choose Donald Trump over Maine families. Charles celebrated a bill that makes health care more expensive, threatens rural hospitals, and raises energy costs for hardworking Mainers. While our families are worried about paying our bills and getting the care we need, Bobby Charles is applauding the very policies making everything too expensive. Mainers deserve a governor who will fight to lower costs, not an enthusiastic rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s agenda.”
Nearly one in three Mainers rely on MaineCare, and rural communities across the state already face significant barriers to accessing affordable health care. Trump’s budget law will cost Maine $2 to $3 billion over the next decade in federal funds for MaineCare. Already, the law has resulted in over 9,000 Mainers losing MaineCare coverage. Instead of fighting for Maine families, Bobby Charles applauded a law that puts health care at risk and makes life more expensive.
