Augusta, Maine — Rick Bennett is officially set to appear on the ballot for governor in this November’s general election.
Bennett, the former chairman of the Maine Republican Party, has a long conservative record. In April, Maine Democrats launched “Rick’s Receipts,” a microsite detailing Bennett’s political history and record.
Maine Democratic Party executive director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:
“Rick Bennett can change his party registration, but he can’t erase his record. He opposed MaineCare expansion, supported defunding Planned Parenthood, worked hand in hand with Paul LePage to push a dangerous Republican agenda, and celebrated Donald Trump’s election. Mainers know exactly who Rick Bennett is, and no rebrand will change that. This November, voters will reject the extreme Republican nominee and the fake Independent trying to hide from his own record.”
Key Highlights from Rick Bennett’s Republican Record:
- Rick Bennett was a proud Trump supporter, was the second congressional district electoral college elector, and even attended Trump’s inauguration.

- Rick was leading the operation to advance and enact Paul LePage’s dangerous policy agenda. As Chairman of the Maine GOP, Rick served on LePage’s transition team and oversaw his reelection.

- As recently as 2022, Rick Bennett supported defunding Planned Parenthood. Only in 2025, when he decided to run for statewide office as an Independent, did Rick suddenly earn a 92% score from Planned Parenthood. The year prior, he got a 38% score.

- Rick Bennett has consistently opposed MaineCare expansion, voting against it in the state legislature, opposing a ballot measure about expansion, and standing by LePage through repeated vetoes.
