MDP Statement on Susan Collins’ War Powers Resolution Vote

Augusta, Maine – Maine Democratic Party executive director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement on Susan Collins’ war powers resolution vote:

“Susan Collins gave Trump the greenlight for his illegal actions in Venezuela when she cast the decisive vote against limiting his war powers without Congressional approval. Her vote today is yet another transparent attempt to save face. The truth is, she has enabled Trump’s disastrous effort that could risk American lives in a costly and unjustified war while Americans face skyrocketing health care prices at home.”

As a reminder, Susan Collins cast the decisive vote against a bill that would have limited Trump’s ability to attack Venezuela without Congressional authorization. She has also faced criticism for her and her spouse’s investments in oil companies that stand to gain from Trump’s actions.
