Republican Senate candidates have raised huge money from the oil and gas industry during the midterm campaign after they voted to continue the Iran war, while oil companies rake in massive profits. With recent reporting that a restart to the Iran war is set for after the midterms, big oil seems to be banking on Republican control of the Senate to prevent a Democratic Congress from forcing an end to the war. […]
And finally the biggest recipient of oil donations, Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins received $58,500 from American Petroleum Institute PAC, Phillips 66, Conocophillips Spirit PAC, Valero Energy Corporation PAC, Marathon Petroleum Employees PAC, Exxon Mobile, Diversified Gas & Oil Corp., Chevron, Halliburton, and American Gas Association PAC.
Collins is also invested in oil companies. Conocophillips PAC gave $5,000 to her victory committee on September 25th. She owns up to $50,000 in Conocophillips stock. Phillips 66 PAC gave her another $5,000 on August 20. She owns up to $65,000 in Phillips 66 stock.
As gas prices have continued to rise, Collins has personally profited along with her campaign benefitting from Trump’s disastrous Iran war.
[Devon Murphy-Anderson said,] “Susan Collins voted to extend the Iran War five times, and now Mainers are paying record prices to heat their homes while gas, oil, and defense companies that Collins owns stock in have profited. Collins doesn’t need an apology – but we do. She needs to apologize to Mainers for voting to continue this pointless, expensive war that is making her wealthier while us Mainers pay more.”
