Augusta, Maine — Jonathan Bush joined the The Ray Richardson Show where made light of PFAS, toxic “forever chemicals” that have contaminated more than 100 farms in Maine, polluted drinking water, and are linked to cancer and other serious health risks.
While discussing Maine’s efforts to restrict PFAS and protect public health, Bush mocked the law, comparing it to banning donuts, red meat, and scotch.
PFAS contamination has devastated Maine communities, forcing farms to shut down, threatening livelihoods, and leaving families exposed to dangerous chemicals in their soil and water.
Maine Democratic Party executive director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:
“While Jonathan Bush is making jokes about cancer-causing chemicals, Mainers are dealing with contaminated water, shuttered farms, and real health risks. If Bush can’t grasp the stakes of PFAS contamination, he has no business making decisions that impact the safety and livelihoods of Maine families.”

TRANSCRIPT
Richardson: If they want to do what they did with cigarettes. And put a warning label on that says your coffee maker may contain PFAS. That’s what adults do in a free society.”
Bush: And, by the way, if we’re doing it like if we’re doing it in order of danger to society, do you know the most dangerous thing? Donuts? We make those illegal?
Richardson: “I thought you were gonna say Democrats, but…”
Bush: “Those who would make, but I mean, too much red meat is a- how about a beautiful scotch? How about a scotch? You gotta get rid of that.”
