Susan Collins Dodges Trump Comment on Americans’ Financial Struggles

Augusta, Maine – Yesterday, Donald Trump said he doesn’t care “even a little bit” about the financial struggles facing Americans while negotiating a potential deal with Iran.

Roughly 90 minutes later, Susan Collins was asked directly about Trump’s comments by a reporter on Capitol Hill. Instead of condemning the remarks, Collins claimed she “didn’t see that.”

Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Kristi Johnston:

“Donald Trump openly admitted he doesn’t care about Americans struggling to pay their bills, and Susan Collins couldn’t even bring herself to condemn it. Pretending she didn’t see it is a convenient excuse from someone who always finds a way to dodge holding Trump accountable. Mainers deserve a senator who will actually fight for families getting crushed by rising costs, not someone too weak to stand up to Trump.”
