Augusta, Maine — New reporting from the Maine Monitor reveals that Republican gubernatorial candidate and DC lobbyist Bobby Charles is refusing to release his personal financial disclosure to Maine voters. While Democratic nominee Hannah Pingree agreed to provide the information, Charles refused.
Yet according to the Monitor:
“Charles declined to provide his own personal financial disclosure, saying he hadn’t heard people raise this issue yet in the campaign and does not “see the value” of adding personal finances to the conversation at this point in the governor’s race.”
What is Bobby Charles hiding in his personal financial disclosures?
For someone who spent years as a DC lobbyist, refusing to disclose personal financial information raises an obvious question: What is Bobby Charles trying to keep from Maine voters?
Statement from Maine Democratic Party Spokesperson Lauryn Fanguen:
“Mainers deserve to know whether someone asking for their vote has financial interests that could influence the decisions they make as governor. Bobby Charles spent years as a Washington lobbyist, yet he’s refusing to provide even the basic transparency that voters deserve. If he truly has nothing to hide, he should release his financial disclosure today.”
