New video and website highlight Collins’ long record of putting her own bottom line and special interests ahead of Mainers
Augusta, Maine – As the general election begins, the Maine Democratic Party is launching a new digital video and microsite holding Susan Collins accountable for enriching herself while Mainers struggle.
The new “Shady Susan” microsite reveals nearly 700 stock trades made by her husband and includes recent reporting showing Collins violated the STOCK Act at least 25 times by failing to properly disclose stock transactions worth up to $445,000. It also highlights how Collins has accepted more than $1.2 million from lobbyists and failed to support a ban on members of Congress becoming lobbyists seven times.
Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson released the following statement:
“For 30 years, Shady Susan has been enriching herself and her billionaire donors while Mainers pay the price. While she raked in money from lobbyists and shady stock trades, she gut health care for Mainers, cast the decisive vote to confirm Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, and voted with Trump 96% of the time. Now, she’s facing the lowest approval ratings of her career, and Mainers are ready to vote her out.”
What to Know About Susan Collins as the General Election Begins:
Susan Collins is facing record-low approval ratings and is in a weaker position now than at any point in her previous reelection campaigns.
- Collins faces “lousy,” “record low” approval numbers that continue to sink and an overwhelming majority of Mainers believe she doesn’t deserve a sixth term. Reports have already highlighted “just how much danger Collins is in as she faces re-election in Maine in 2026.”
Susan Collins is a reliable vote for Donald Trump’s extreme agenda.
- Collins is a “regular deciding vote” on “important Republican policies” and nominations – and voted with Trump over 96% of the time – and her “protest votes” have been observed “as strategic as they are symbolic,” with her showing “independence only when it doesn’t really make a difference.”
- Prominent Republicans have said she has “never let the Republicans down” and is a “team player” in helping move forward GOP priorities.
Susan Collins helped gut Mainers’ health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires.
- Collins was a “key” “pivotal vote” to advance the GOP tax bill that is forcing 61,000 Mainers to lose their health care and risked shutting down rural Maine hospitals in order to pay for tax giveaways to billionaires.
- Collins’ voted against extending ACA tax credits, which would have protected more than 50,000 Mainers from seeing their premiums “double, triple or even quadruple.”
Collins helped overturn Roe v. Wade – and she’s still attacking reproductive freedom.
- Collins was a decisive vote to confirm Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch who went on to overturn Roe v. Wade and she continues to “rubber-stamp” anti-choice judges who pose threats to reproductive freedom nationally.
