Photo reveals Collins smiling with MAGA goodie bag after celebrating Republican “unity” in opposing efforts to save affordable health care

Augusta, Maine – As 50,000 Mainers Mainers brace for skyrocketing premiums when ACA tax credits expire, Susan Collins collected a MAGA swag bag in the Oval Office at yesterday’s lunch celebrating Washington Republicans’ “unity in the government shutdown fight and for passing nominees.”  

Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Thousands of Mainers are set to lose their health care thanks to Susan Collins and Washington Republicans, but Collins is too busy celebrating her loyalty to Donald Trump over Rose Garden lunches and MAGA Swag Bags to lift a finger to help them. It’s disgraceful.”

The gift bag and Republican celebratory lunch comes as:

• Collins votes with Trump 96% of the time,

• Collins serves as a “regular deciding vote” on “important Republican policies” and nominations.

• Collins follows Trump’s order to not “even bother dealing with” Democrats on government funding and continues to vote numerous against a bill that would protect more than 50,000 Mainers who are at risk of seeing their insurance premiums skyrocket when enhanced premium ACA tax credits expire.

REMINDER: If the Collins and Republicans have their way and ACA tax credits are not extended, on average premiums for those on Maine’s health insurance marketplace could nearly double and they’ll be expected to pay $286 more per month. Thousands could pay over $900 more a month, and in some scenarios, families could see rates skyrocket by 412%.

Susan Collins “has yet to sponsor” any legislative move to extend the tax credits despite Maine state officials warning action had to be taken before September 30th.
